Character introduction - Kendo T-10

Classic magnetic unit with caterpillar tracks, originaly made for surface repairs of spaceships. Today you could say it is obsolote. But this specific unit survived many star battles and after heavy modification, it become very powerful fighting robot. Due upgrade of AI chips it seems (and some actualy believe that) that he has his own inteligence and will. Technicaly speaking it's impossible, however his work and achievements during many wars promoted him to a rank of bodyguard of the Emperor himself. It's a huge success for hundred years old repair unit, don't you think?

Character introduction - Lizardman

Even before the war, there was a secret laboratory on Gulag, hidden beneath the ground. An imperial scientist was trying to create the ultimate warrior, using cybernetics, genetic manipulation and also irradiation. The results were disgusting, however with the fallout of the war,a few of experiments, who were actualy able to move, escaped and survived in the wilderness. And that's how Lizardman was born. He is merely a overgrown lizard with human genes, with some additional cybernetics holding the whole body in one piece. Technically, he is a mutant so don't really expect him to talk to you - he is definitely more animal then person. Inteligent enough to hold the gun, but still an animal.

Lizardman has only one thing on his mind - reproduction. It would be hard to find a oposite gender for him, as he is totaly unique. But there still is a hope - maybe he could find the secret laboratory and another sample with a compatible genome to copulate with? It's hard to say, what he will  find, but his prime instinct will force him to do it.

First developers' meeting

It might sound strange, but after three months of hard work, this was actualy very first time we have met together in person - well most of us. On the picture you can see (from left to right) Dave de Sade, Předseda, Matěj (my son, betatester) and MarK. Nooly was too late, but he shows up after all. And Tsak was invited, but couldn't made it from Greece to Czech Republic that quickly, so he skipped ;). I would like to thank to all of you guys not only for showing up, but also for stunning amount of work we made so far!

Current status - controls works via all 4 joysticks flawlessly, shooting, inventory - works as designed. Doors are opening, sound is sounding, falling down throught a floor works, so we are missing buttons, keys for opening doors and also enemies needs to be polished. I think that we might announce a demoversion soon - no promises at this moment, Christmas time is coming. Demo level is finalised on paper, but some of functionalities are missing. We are still finalising UI and additional graphics, but from my point of view - this could be done in few weeks. Wish us a luck!

Teaching old dog some new tricks

During last weekend, I was working on some additional graphics for the demo level - in this case simple elevator shaft. I wanted to show our main concept artist Drokk, how exactly we are creating graphics. Drokk is professional artist, so he is familiar with Photoshop and other Adobe products, but he was Amiga enthusiast long time ago. However, he never had a chance to use DPaint or some other brilliant program on the Amiga. So I took my Amiga to his place, trying to show him, how much fun he is missing.

Character introduction - Clavius

Clavius is one of the few members, of the original Hired Guns team, who survived events after Graveyard incident. If we trust the official documents, there are few unconfirmed deaths, so the only confirmed survivor is Clavius. With a huge fee on his head, he has to hide well and the planet Gulag seems to be a good place to hide.

Reinforcement - Tsak has joined our team!

I've got very good news today - I can officialy welcome aboard new member of our team. See his own introduction below:

Full name's John Tsakiris from Athens-Greece & I'm 34. I work as a graphic designer & photographer to make a living. Part from the visual arts, my main -and most serious- interest is music production & live performances (check us out: on the Facebook). I've been an Amiga enthusiast from my sweet childhood and an Amiga owner since the early 90s. I love games with a passion and I've been into game design -board & computer gaming- for the last 10-12 years.

I've been involved in numerous Amiga related projects the last 4-5 years as a member of the Natami team, and Chaos team - responsible for the Total Chaos games.

Tsak also provided some samples of his work, so you can clearly see, what is his strongest point:

Speaking about introduction, Tsak had a good point, that all of us should introduce themselves, so I have already asked rest of our team, to provide some similar text. It will be posted here soon.

Character introduction - Skrk

A very rare genetic mutation gave Skrk a second head on his left shoulder. This is an incredible advantage because of his doubled senses, making him a natural born killer from day one, however with two brains there is a risk of schizofrenic decisions. As a hired assassin he was living honest life, until he was involved with the emperor's family. Due to unplanned and unfortunate circumstances, he has interfered with the Emperor himself, giving him only one chance for forgiveness. He has to kill one of his mates, while sent to planet Gulag. That's not an easy task even for such a skillfull killer as Skrk, but to earn Emperor's pardon, he just has to do a job. Hopefully it will be the last thing the Emperor demands.

Quick look to the graphic's forge

Here just a quick look how - in this case rails - are created. They must fit to 16x16 matrix, so I use the grid in a spare screen and display it through a Light table function of Deluxe Paint. I draw the  basic shapes with a mouse and the details using the graphic tablet.

Story so far...

Planet N-6981, called Nausen, better known as planet Gulag. For centuries it has been said, that you can't find better place to have a prison. A deserted planet in the middle of nowhere. They say, that once you step in, you will never leave. But that is just a legend, as we now know.

The myth goes, that Gulag was the very first planet, where life was born. The fairy tales continues, that once powerfull and superior race of Nausen could  speak with the gods themselves. Just a legend, they say. Why would such a great race disappear?

Shadow palette

For Chaos Guns we decided to create a system of dynamic shading, which has some restrictions for us as graphicians. The basic principle of this shading is that we use only the upper 128 colors of the palette for drawing, lower 128 colors are used for shadows. How does this work?

Character introduction - Drokk

Drokk is the leader of an anarchist unit called Zigizag. Purpose of existence of this highly trained combat unit is to follow and sabotage imperial army activity. He has fought  in many wars, but he's not really showing it off. His latest attempt to assassinate generalisimo Garkhan wasn't that sucessful. After a  direct attack to an army base on planet Nausen, Drokk found himself surrounded with all of his fellow soldiers dead by a surprise counterattack. Drokk has been senteced to death, waiting for his execution in a deep prison in the middle of the military base.

He is 42 years old, one of the very last humans born on Earth.

Welcome!

Welcome to our developer's blog.

On September 2013 we have started development of a new game for our beloved Amiga computer - named Chaos Guns. Our goal is simple - to bring back the  good old classic playability of games like Chaos Engine, Alien Breed and Hired Guns - mix it togehter and add some extra spice on top.

We would like to inform our fellow Amigans and gamers worldwide about the  progress of our development. Each week there will be one new article, related to the game's background, character introductions,  the story behind the scenes and further revelations of some non playable characters as well. Independently, we will post any major update regarding technology advances, samples of new graphics or even the evolution of the game design mechanics

Later on, we are planning to release our game in a limited boxed edition containing the original artwork - all details will be published on this blog also

Stay tuned,  the storm is coming!
